Pretty, playful and practical master suite
The client has a great sense of style and a good eye for design, and wanted a clean and minimal, sophisticated style with a playful twist. Our task was to guide the busy family to efficient and beautiful choices that matched their budget.
The master bedroom is a bright, big space with vaulted ceilings. A large chandelier and custom made bed are main focal points together with the stunning inlaid bone nightstands from India. With the custom curtains and restrained color scheme, this space brings to mind a refined hotel suite.
In the bathroom, the client challenged us to create a functional, beautiful space within an elongated footprint. The wish list included a sophisticated materials palette, separate vanities and walk-in closets for him and her, as well as a tub focal point from the entry. After working through various layouts, the selected plan checks all the boxes. The statement tub and chandelier are the first things to capture the eye as you walk into the bath. A shelf behind the tub adds space for decorative as well as utilitarian objects, and the highly placed window provides light while maintaining privacy.
This project was designed just as the geometric tile trend was taking off, so the product choices on the market were very limited. The solution was to lay a rectangular tile in a herringbone pattern, which gives a nod to the trend while providing a classic style that will last for a long time.
The mudroom is oftentimes be one of the most neglected spaces in a house – designed just for function – but not in this home! Doing the laundry in this functional AND beautiful space is a pleasure! The style is the same as for the rest of the added spaces – modern, simple and functional with a monochromatic color scheme and fun design touches. The pattern of the hexagonal floor tile was composed by us for added interest, through a custom combination of standard tile colors.
Working with a client over time on multiple projects is always a treat because you can build off the knowledge gained, making the design process enjoyable and exciting. I adore this family, who have also become dear friends, and took great pride in bringing their vision for a peaceful master suite to life.
