This extensive renovation project, including modifications to design and floor plan, turned an outdated 1970’s house into a contemporary, fresh, inviting, and fun “forever home.” The wish list for the master suite included improved functionality and a showstopper bathroom with a spa feel.
Making space
To create this fresh and fun contemporary master suite, we added space to the bathroom by moving the closet from within the master bath to the bedroom area. Sliding barn doors to the new walk-in closet maximize space both inside and outside the wardrobe. The barn doors work well with the existing furniture of the bedroom, and add a rustic-romantic touch and a distinct design element to the space.
The enlarged master bathroom includes a large shower and a free-standing bathtub, a double sink vanity, a separate toilet, and built-in storage space. Neutral sand colors form the base for the color scheme. Accents of soft, muted colors are found in the tile work and the warm brown of the cabinetry and counter top. Hand blown glass sconces over the vanity add to the sense of luxury.
Glass tiles add depth and interest
The large shower and free-standing bathtub feature porcelain-tile back walls and recessed shelves. Above the tub, the full-length shelf has horizontal inset artisan glass decorative tiles. A dramatic linear-wave stripe design of larger scale glass tiles gives the impression of a waterfall cascading down the bathtub wall. These same tiles are carried through as accents in the large shower and on the mirror wall.
